2. What types of childcare can I access via NannyPod?

Nannies: Long Term Childcare (Part Time or Full Time Nannies) are usually consistent childcare providers to your family, either part-time (20 hours per week+/-) or full-time (40 hours per week+/-).

Babysitters: Short Term Childcare (Date Night Babysitters / One Time Nannies / Back Up Care) are usually for occasional one-time care e.g. date nights, you time, covering while your consistent nanny is away / sick etc…

Infant Care Nurses: Newborn Care Specialists, Infant Care Nurses & Baby Care (helping parents get sleep and reduce stress) are usually requested to help families with new babies, infants, and even toddlers.

Homework Helpers: Academic & Skilled Childcare Providers are usually ones with a patience and intellect to assist your young ones with school projects and homework assignments.

Tutors: Subject Specialized Childcare Providers who have the demeanor and attributes in certain subject areas to help your children get better grades, but most of all understand key concepts.

3. How are NannyPod users recruited and screened?

We strongly recommend all childcare providers AND parents attain their background check to show their commitment to safety. Thank you. Click Here!

NannyPod takes our commitment to connecting you with reliable in-home childcare very seriously. However, each family is responsible for completing optional background checks and reference checking. We recommend that you create a screening process designed to assess each applicant in an extremely thorough manner. NannyPod specifically recommends you complete, amongst other items:

  • Social Security Number Trace and Address History

  • National Criminal background check, including the Sex Offender registry

  • Motor Vehicle Registry Driver History check including a thorough review (unless prohibited by law)

  • Random Drug Tests

  • CPR Certification verification

  • Detailed childcare history, experience and skills

  • Personal information including lifestyle, interests, and education

  • Professional references verified by a NannyPod representative

  • Childcare references verified by a NannyPod representative

  • Infant Care Nurses are official certified Registered Nurses or Infant Care Specialists

  • In person interview

Childcare experience, personality, skills and motivation for being a qualified and exceptional caretaker for your family are of paramount importance. Your hiring process is should be lengthy with a zero tolerance policy for candidates who do not meet your criteria.

4. What do we do if a childcare provider does not turn up to work?

This is extremely rare. However, in the unfortunate occurrence that this happens we’d recommend reaching out to them directly to see what happened. In our experience most childcare providers turn up on time, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

5. Do I need to pay income taxes for childcare providers?

Short Term Sitters: No. Each Sitter is an independent contractor and all taxes should be filed and paid to the IRS by the babysitter.

Long Term Nannies: Yes. Matched nannies are where the nanny is a household employee and working long-term in a permanent part time or full time position.

6. Can a family get an IRS Tax Credit for childcare costs?

Yes! You can pay less tax and lower your Nanny / Sitter costs. Subject to IRS rules and regulations, families may be entitled to an IRS Tax Credit up to a maximum of $2100. You can claim up to $3000 in expenses for one child, and $6000 for two children or more. You, or your qualified CPA, will need to file IRS form 2441 with your tax return and follow the IRS eligibility rules. You may need the NannyPod USA Incorporated EIN which is 81-3579512. Don’t forget to keep all receipts for your tax records!

IRS Tax Credit Example: A Family with 2 Children, who earns more than $43,000 per annum in 2023, pays $14/hour for one child, and $16/hour for two children, using 400 hours over the course of 1 year:

100 Hours                                    Cost           Average Per Hour

100 Hours for Family w/ One Child               $1,400.00          $14.00

100 Hours for Family w/ Two Children           $1,600.00          $16.00

2 X 100 Hours = $2800

2 X 100 Hours = $3200

Total Cost of Hours before Tax Credit $2800 + $3200 = $6000

Hours Total = 400 Hours

Average Cost before Tax Credit $6000 / 400 = $15 Per hour

IRS Tax Credit allowed =  20% x $6000 = $1200

Total Cost of Hours after Tax Credit $6000 - $1200 = $4800

Average Cost after Tax Credit = $4800 / 400 = $12 Per Hour

*NannyPod sends an email every January to every family and attaches IRS form 2441 to remind them to claim the IRS Tax Credit for Childcare costs.

8. Can I use my company Dependent Care FSA / Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP) account to pay for childcare?

Yes! If your company provides you with a Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) or sometimes known as a DCAP, then you can use that account to pay for childcare with pre-tax dollars. This helps you save money. If your employer does not offer a Dependent Care FSA or DCAP, you can ask that they set one up through a company like WageWorks. Read this link here for more information

9. What does a family do if parents are divorced or separated, and they both want to use NannyPod?
